As we approach the holidays the team is focused on projects supporting the continuous quality improvement of the varieties of wheat that growers have available. WMC evaluates the soft red and soft white finalists in the annual Wheat Yield Contest sponsored by the National Wheat Foundation for their baking and end use quality – illustrating the importance of both yield and baking quality. In collaboration with the PNW Wheat Quality Council, WMC provides evaluation and feedback to university and private breeders on emerging varieties for their end use quality. This feedback is essential to ensuring that US grown wheat meets the high quality standards of buyers around the world.
