This week the Pacific Northwest Wheat Quality Council hosts their annual meeting in Coeur d’Alene Idaho. This non-profit group first convened in 1995 and meets annually to evaluate advanced generation wheat breeding lines submitted by public and private breeding programs. Wheat Marketing Center is one of the volunteer collaborators who test and evaluate submitted samples for wheat, flour, and product quality. Jayne Bock, Bon Lee, and Liman Liu are attending this year’s meeting. The results of this collaborative process are used to create the “Preferred Wheat Varieties” list published annually to give guidance to farmers on which varieties have the highest value for millers, bakers and food manufacturers.  This work is fundamental in ensuring that the wheat grown in the Pacific Northwest continues to be the highest quality available to customers worldwide. The technical team continues work on finalizing sponge cake analysis for the RVA study conducted for U.S. Wheat Associates.
